About the Scholarship

On February 24, 1996, three Brothers to the Rescue aircrafts were conducting a search and rescue mission over international waters between Florida and Cuba when Cuban Air Force jets shot down two of the planes.

The Martyrs of February 24, 1996 Scholarship was created by the four families of the fallen men:

 Carlos Costa, Pablo Morales, Mario de la Peña and Armando Alejandre Jr. 

The topic for the 2019 scholarship is:   “The Struggle for Human Rights in Cuba - 1990 to the present”
