LGBTQIA Fantasy & Sci-Fi

Modern Fantasy and Science Fiction, as with a lot of literature, mainly focuses on heterosexual characters.  Not only are the characters depicted hetero-normative, they are also heavily sexist. They are brave, strong, and highly intelligent individuals. They are scientists, aliens, warriors, wizards, super-heroes, and other supernatural beings, and they deserve their time in the spotlight.

LGBTQ Horror

What are the origins of the horror as a genre today? According to Dale Bailey, horror fiction is different from other genres of fiction since it “seeks to inspire a unique emotional state in its readers—fear—it is more properly seen in light of what it does than what it is” (Genreflecting: A Guide to Popular Reading Interest, 2006, p. 420). In other words, horror is not so much a genre of fiction about horror but rather a genre that focuses on creating a sense of fear within the reader. Though supernatural beings, such as ghosts, vampires, and demons are associated with this genre, they do not define it since horror fiction can be any stories that induce a sense of fear.

Mysteries and Thrillers

Most popular and diverse literary genre is that of Crime and Mystery Fiction.  There are several reasons why these novels are so popular.  For some readers, it is the detective and the setting that draws them in. For others it is the suspense, the unexpected twists, the atmosphere, and the thrill of trying the solving of the mystery before the sagacious detective does..  The books on this page focus on LGBTQ sleuths and mysteries.
