Most students don't know how to express their needs when they come see us. They lack our internal jargon and often the issue is wider in scope than they perceive. This is a fun activity to get staff to assess student needs and more thoroughly solve their problem.
As a variation of the Heads Up game, write down some common reasons students visit the Student Services counter on index cards. Have them break up into pairs or into small groups and place a card facing outward on their foreheads. Using the clarifying and probing questions, have them try to figure out the reason for the visit. Everyone takes a turn.
