How do I access my student email using Apple Mail 3 (Leopard)? 

To set up your Mail.app client to work with your student email:
  1. Create a POP password for your student email account.
  2. Enable IMAP from within your student email. 
  3. In Apple Mail, click Mail > Preferences....
  4. On the Accounts tab, click the + button to add a new account.
  5. Fill in the new window with the following information:
    • Full Name: [your name]
    • Email Address: your full student email address [username@mymdc.net]
    • Password: your POP password
    • Important: please deselect the box next to 'Automatically set up account'
  6. Click Create.
  7. Fill in the following Incoming Mail Server information:
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server: Change this to imap.gmail.com
    • User Name: your full student email address [username@mymdc.net]
    • Password: your POP password
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Enter the following Outgoing Mail Server information:
    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Use Authentication: selected
    • User Name: your full student email address [username@mymdc.net]
    • Password: your POP password
  10. Click Continue.
  11. Review your Account Summary, and click Create.
