This website contains materials related to a CIOL Faculty Professional Development workshop on Online Research Tools and Resources and how they can be used to help students develop information literacy skills. Information literacy is one of MDC's ten General Education Learning Outcomes, and was identified by the Chronicle of Higher Education as one of the top ten higher education trends of 2017.
Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:
- Define information literacy and its relation to student success.
- Identify, access, and navigate a selection of subject-specific databases available through the MDC Libraries.
- Construct and post an assignment that incorporates the principles of information literacy and requires the use of at least one database.
- Critique their colleagues' assignments using criteria learned in the workshop.
