Join Miami Film Festival and Professor Adrian Garcia for another exciting edition of his ongoing “Women Above the Line” lecture series.  Adrian will bring his students face to face with trailblazing independent filmmaker Rebeca Huntt.

STEAM Powered Girls by Authors Elizabeth De Zulueta and Nola Garcia De Quevedo

STEAM is the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. The book STEAM Powered Girls is written for women who love any of these subjects — or are facing the challenges and dilemmas of growing up strong and able to achieve their dreams in today’s world.

Students will meet the authors, Lizzy, a robotics engineer, and Nola, a renowned science and robotics educator and STEM advocate.

Healing Yoga

Andreina Gomez

Feeling stressed? Join us as Ms. Andreina Gomez takes us through a flow of gentle movements utilizing guided breathwork. Passive, nourishing postures and periods of stillness will leave you with a renewed sense of calmness in the mind, body, and soul.

Women in the Music Industry: Yolanda Neely

Radio is a big and competitive place, but oftentimes it lacks diversity. Yolanda, former iHeart radio personality, businesswoman, and a pillar in the community will share her experiences as a woman in radio broadcasting and the changing roles, issues, and concerns of women in the industry.

Thursday, March 24th 

Title: Film, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks"

This HBO film drama tells the true story of Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line, known as HeLa.  The story is told primarily through the eyes of Lack’s daughter Deborah (Oprah Winfrey) and journalist Rebecca Skloot (Rose Byrne).  This film chronicles Deborah’s search to learn about the mother she never knew, and to understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks’ cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs.
