Proctored Exams — Midterms & Finals

If you have a proctored midterm and/or final exam in one or more of your Summer 2020 classes, you may need to use a technology-supported tool and/or proctor.

Depending on the class, you may have one or more of these options for technology-supported remote proctoring:

  • Respondus Monitor (RM)
  • Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB)
  • ProctorU*
    *Required for all MDC Online classes and for some Remote Learning Classes (RLCs).

Contact your instructor for additional details specific to your course.


Important Note: Students will need a laptop and webcam to use most technology-supported remote proctoring tools and services. Chromebooks are not supported by Respondus RM, LDB, or ProctorU. Please notify your instructor if you do not have access to a webcam,  and a windows or mac desktop or laptop computer.

Remote Testing Fees

Students will not be responsible for any fees associated with remote testing for Summer 2020 semester.

  • Costs associated with a student taking any proctored exam/assessment through a technology-supported remote proctor (ProctorU, Respondus Monitor, etc.) will be covered by Miami Dade College for this term only. 
  • Please refer to your Course Syllabus and instructor for additional information. 

Respondus Lockdown Browser

What is Respondus Lockdown Browser?

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system (Blackboard). It locks down student computers to prevent cheating during exams. 


LockDown Browser Requirement

  • Check with your instructor and course syllabus to see if the course requires the use of LockDown Browser for online exams. Watch this video to get a basic understanding of LockDown Browser.

Download Instructions

Once Installed:

  • Start LockDown Browser
  • Log into Blackboard Learn
  • Navigate to the test

Note: You won't be able to access tests with a standard web browser. If this is tried, an error message will indicate that the test requires the use of LockDown Browser. Simply start LockDown Browser and navigate back to the exam to continue.


Guidelines
When taking an online test, follow these guidelines:

  • Select a location where you won't be interrupted.
  • Before starting the test, know how much time is available for it, and also that you've allotted sufficient time to complete it.
  • Turn off all mobile devices, phones, etc. and don't have them within reach.
  • Clear your area of all external materials - books, papers, other computers, or devices.
  • Remain at your desk or workstation for the duration of the test.
  • LockDown Browser will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications; you will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted.

Getting Help
Several resources are available if you encounter problems with LockDown Browser:

  • The Windows and Mac versions of LockDown Browser have a "Help Center" button located on the toolbar. Use the "System & Network Check" to troubleshoot issues. If an exam requires you to use a webcam, also run the "Webcam Check" from this area.
  • Respondus has a Knowledge Base available from support.respondus.com. Select the "Knowledge Base" link and then select "Respondus LockDown Browser" as the product. If your problem is with a webcam, select "Respondus Monitor" as your product.
  • If you're still unable to resolve a technical issue with LockDown Browser, go to support.respondus.com and select "Submit a Ticket". Provide detailed information about your problem and what steps you took to resolve it.

  • Remote Testing Request Form (exams available for remote testing are CART, CSP, Accuplacer Next Generation, PERT): 
    • MDC students select option 1 and complete the form at the bottom of the page.

  • Test Entry Request Form (used for students to request the submission of their test scores to MDC):
    • For example, students can use this form in order to request for their CLEP, FTCE/GKT, AP, or IB exam scores to be submitted to MDC.
