This guide contains training material for Learning Resources Medical Campus staff.

Laptops

Laptops: checkin/out process
 

CheckOut steps for students: 

1. Request Physical ID and Check in ALMA if students have laptops on loan.

If student has a Laptop on Loan:

Student needs to return laptop and have the respective campus clear their account.

If students does not have a Laptop on Loan: 

Confirm Student is enrolled (check schedule)

Options

  • Students can share this information via the MDC App

  • Verify via your MDConnect Access (FT employees only): Main Menu >>Campus Solutions >> Campus Community >> Student Service Center>> Enter ID#

  • You can check student enrollment on EAB Navigate (Search for student by name or ID# under "quick search"  >> Select the courses tab >> A list of one or more courses confirms enrollment

2. Ask students to read instructions carefully. Verbally emphasize equipment damage responsibility. (You are responsible for any damages). 

3. Fill out agreement form:

4. Inspect laptops AND charges for any damages.

  1. Test equipment first
  2. If damaged, enter a note in ALMA
  3. Make sure it connects to MDC secure WIFi
  4. Ask students to sign in before leaving 

5. Check it out 

CheckOut steps for employees:

1. Inform staff Laptops are for students only

2. If staff member still interested: 

Ask staff member to email April Gaddis or Ivan Toledo requesting Laptop. If permission granted, the loan period is two weeks. 

3. Change due the date in ALMA to two weeks

4. Follow regular check out steps listed for students 

 
CheckIN steps  

1. Examine laptop for any damages and return of proper power cord

2. Complete (Laptop Return - Students form) at the front desk

3. If no damage

CheckIn laptop in ALMA (Refer to Full Time Employee)

4. If damaged:

eMail Ivan Toledo (itoledo2@mdc.edu) with the student's name, ID, and description of specific damages

5. Collect Laptop and power cord. Do not check it back in ALMA

6. Inform students:  "because the laptop is damaged, we can't check it back in at this time. We will follow the process set by the college to deal with damaged laptops and email the college wide learning resources director. We will contact you once a decision has been made".

7. Full time staff submits ticket to Medical IT for inspection. 

  • If damaged beyond repair: Return to a Full Time staff member. Remove from the system following proper procedure.
  • If damaged but still usable: Enter a note in ALMA under the ITEM, and check in back In ALMA
