In this webinar, Dr. Derryn Moten, Professor and Chair of History and Political Science at Alabama State University, will discuss the historical inequities in health care that have affected and continue to affect the African American community. The presentation will address African Americans’ past experiences in accessing health care, and how those historical challenges still resonate in our present-day context. This event is open to all who wish to further understand inequities in access to adequate healthcare in the U.S., particularly in marginalized communities.

Pre-registration is not required for this Zoom Webinar. Professors who ask their students to attend are encouraged to send a reminder and event link on the day of the event (Tuesday, 2/15/22).

The webinar will be recorded. The event recording, PowerPoint, bibliography and educator resources will be made available electronically post event.

Event speaker Derryn E. Moten, Ph.D. is pictured here standing in front of a photo of civil rights and labor leader, E.D. Nixon, a Pullman Porter and former president of the Montgomery Branch of the NAACP who played a pivotal role in organizing the landmark Montgomery bus boycott of 1955.

Dr. Moten is Professor and Chair of the History and Political Science Department at Alabama State University. He also serves as a vice-president of Alabama AFL-CIO and as co-chair of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Higher Education Program & Policy Committee.
