How to Search for Books and eBooks in the Catalog

  • Go to www.mdc.edu/learning-resources/libraries/
  • Click on Catalog and Databases.
  • Click on Advanced Search (to the right of the orange SEARCH command).
  • Narrow the Material Type to Books or eBooks.
  • Type your keyword(s) in the empty box(es).
  • Click on Search.
  • Write down the "call number" (e.g. JK1021. C565 2008) for the book, to find it in the library.  Or for an eBook, click "View Online" and log in with your Borrower ID ( student ID number) and PIN (last four digits of student ID number).

Notes

eBooks can be viewed from any computer with Internet access.

Interlibrary Loan: If there is a print book you need which we don't have available, we may be able to get it from another library.  Request the book through the library catalog or speak to a librarian for help.

Searching for Films

Search the Catalog to find dvds or streaming videos.  Limit your search by Material Type, to Audio/Visual Material.

DVDS are located by the Service Desk in the library and can be checked out for one week.  Electronic videos can be streamed online.

Library of Congress Classification

Books are arranged in the library according to the Library of Congress Classification.  Each book has a call number, which is derived from this classification.
