Course Description

Historical background and foundations of American criminal law, including United States Constitutional requirements, Federal and State court organization and jurisdiction, criminal law basics, Florida statutes, rules of evidence and procedure.

Course Competencies

Competency 1: The student will discuss the legal foundations of criminal justice.

Competency 2: The student will discuss substantive criminal law.

Competency 3: The student will analyze the elements of crimes and parties to crimes.

Competency 4: The student will define inchoate offenses.

Competency 5: The student will compare common law and the modern-day approach to criminal offenses.
