EDF 1005: Introduction to the Teaching Profession: Home

Course Description

The student will learn the historical, sociological, and philosophical foundations of education, governance, finance, policies, legal, moral and ethical issues, and the professionalism of teaching. The student will develop an understanding of the Florida Educator. Accomplished Practices, standards, and Professional Educator Competencies. Fifteen hours of service learning experience are required.

Course Competencies

Competency 1: The student will examine the attributes of a professional educator.

Competency 2: The student will apply historical knowledge to today’s current practices.

Competency 3: The student will identify key factors associated with effective schools.

Competency 4: The student will identify local, state, and federal sources of funding and how each affects education.

Competency 5: The student will identify the legal aspects of education and understand how governance, laws, and policies are enacted at the local, state, and federal levels.

Competency 6: The student will define the ethical and legal issues facing teachers.

Competency 7: The student will determine career options in education.
