What is the International Read-In Chain?

Reading internationally is a fun way to broaden your horizons; the only problem is that the possibilities are endless! Miami Dade College Libraries, with the support of Miami-Dade Public Library System, will provide you access to great literature from around the world in topics like history, social issues, philosophy, religion, memoirs, and much more! Pledge today and pick up a book (physically or virtually) that features a completely different perspective and learn to see the world in a new way!

Dance Around the World

On Monday November 7 at 11 am, the International Committee invites Miami Dade College students, faculty, and staff to room 3249 to learn about dance.  Dance can tell us so much about a particular culture.  Librarian Edwin Gilmore will examine dance from an historical and anthropological perspective.  Then, we will dance!

Contraband at the Borders: Canine Olfaction vs Analytical Detection of Illegal Drugs

A comparison between instrumental detection methods and detector dogs will be presented. Overall, detector dogs still represent the fastest, most versatile, reliable real-time drug detection in comparison with the analytical instrument approach that has limitations since they can only detect that for which they are programmed.

A Woman Is No Man Author Talk by Etaf Rum

Location: Room 2147

Time:9:50 AM & 11:15 AM in Room 2147  Join us as Palestinian American author Etaf Rum discusses her debut novel, A Woman Is No Man. Rum's book explores what it means gender and generational issues in a three-generation Palestinian household.  The book's unvarnished telling of three Palestinian women's stories captures the reader's attention until the last page.

Screening of Movie, "Everybody Knows" followed by Q&A with Barry Gordon

Written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, and starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, and Ricardo Darín, “Everybody Knows” or “Todos Lo Saben” is an intriguing Spanish-language mystery/drama film. The film was selected to open the 2018 Cannes Film Festival in competition.

A Conversation on Climate Change and Sea Level Rising with the Consul General of the Netherlands in Miami, the Honorable Ruth Emmerink.

As part of the Building Global Leaders, International Environmental Series and in collaboration with the Center for the Advancement of Language and Culture Studies in the World Language department, Consul General Ruth Emmerink will be discussing the Climate Change the world is facing and what the government of the Netherland is doing to minimize water rising.
