What is Information Literacy?

What Is Information Literacy?

According to the American Library Association (ALA), information literacy is "a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.”

The SIFT Method can help you evaluate information that you find on the internet.  Resources you find at the MDC libraries can you lead to credible and scholarly sources.

Learning Resources tutors can provide assistance with the writing process for any course.  These knowledgeable staff members provide face-to-face and virtual instruction in a variety of courses such as writing, reading, business, natural science, health sciences, speech, and test preparation.

Librarians can help with research and citations.  Face-to-face assistance is available throughout the day at the reference desk on the second floor of the library.  Appointments with librarians can also occur through face-to-face or virtual formats.
