Departmental Overview

Learning Resources Expectations
Employees are expected to be on time.

When reporting late or absent, you should contact Learning Resources at (305) 237-5153, and the respective supervisor/manager via Shifts, within one (1) hour of the start of the scheduled work period. 

Do you need time off?

A request must be made in advance (2 weeks) via Shifts and approved by a supervisor.

Do you need to report an issue or complaint?

Report issues or complaints such as accidents, emergencies or incidents as soon as possible to Public Safety at (305) 237-5100 and to a supervisor. 

Keep personal visits brief. 

Personal vistor/s must stay in the lobby (or designated areas as applicable) at all times with no longer than a five-minute visit unless you notified a supervisor in advance and access to other areas of the office is approved by the Director. 

Notify a Supervisor in advance in each of the following instances:

  • Leaving the workstation for excessively long periods
  • Changes to your work schedule or break schedule
  • Difficulty clocking in/out. Clock in at the time you are assigned to work for that day and clock out at your assigned end time.
  • Making up hours or working any missed hours
  • Going over your assigned hours
  • Working on alternative activities, which have not been assigned
  • Unable to complete an assignment by the communicated deadline
Employees are expected to wear appropriate clothing while on the job. 

If management considers clothing inappropriate, the employee will be warned. If it is considered a failure to meet reasonable expectations, the employee will be sent home. 

Your employee identification should be visible at all times.

When on campus, and during scheduled work hours.

Employees' personal appearance and hygiene are important to both employees and the College.

Employees are expected to maintain good personal appearance and to give consideration to neatness, cleanliness, and safety.

Employees should always dress in an appropriate and professional manner.

Employees are to comply with departmental and College expectations, policies, procedures, and to follow management's directives.

An employee may not work past their scheduled time, unless they have received prior approval in writing from a supervisor. 

Employees shall notify a supervisor prior to leaving their designated work area(s). 

An employee must have prior approval before leaving the work site during work hours. 

Part-time employees may not work more than 25 hours for a given week. 

Employees must use professional language and conduct.

As representatives of the College, employees are expected to conduct themselves in an ethical, professional, respectful, and collaborative manner at all times. 

During work hours, employees are expected to NOT:

  • play digital games from portable handheld devices
  • gamble or conduct other games of chance while on College premises
  • disrupt or interfere with the administration or function of the College and Campus
Personal Phone Calls

Cell phone use and texting should be for emergency purposes. 

Phone/Person Greeting

All faculty and staff will be addressed in a professional manner. For example: when addressing parents, use "Mr. or Ms."; with a faculty member, use "Professor or Dr." unless they have expressed comfort with being called by their first name. 

Email

All employees must have a full email signature in both external and internal outgoing messages. This signature must include: first name and last name, position title, department name, College/Campus name, address, phone number, and email address. 

Falsification of any MDC records is prohibited.

This includes but is not limited to time sheets, service requests, research, and/or work related documents, may lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

All staff are expected to answer general department questions. Examples include: explaining hours of operation, services/resources availability and requirements. 

Confidential information (FERPA): Department staff is expected to handle extremely sensitive materials. Dishonesty of any sort will not be tolerated. 

Use of College property or equipment, including computer usage, is for work only.

Food/drinks are NOT permitted in the learning commons/library.
