Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 @ Padrón Campus
Miami Dade College proudly celebrates every year from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, the contributions of Hispanics to the United States and the world. The Padrón Campus HHM Committee curates a selection of events and activities showcasing contributions in the humanities and sciences. This year, the celebration's theme is Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.

Where are you coming from? Where are you going? These questions will be answered by students and the campus community as they write their answers in colors on designated spaces around campus to form a quilt of experiences and dreams. Our Words, Our Heritage Join us for a digital celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! This online exhibit highlights five of our students as they perform poetry that speaks to their experiences and cultural heritage from the book Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology. From classic verses to modern expressions, this collection brings these poems out of the book and into the spotlight. You can watch the full video readings and read the poems at your own pace. Building Generational Wealth: Honoring Our Roots, Empowering Our Future This a financial literacy presentation is designed to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by connecting cultural values with financial empowerment. Attendees will learn practical strategies for saving, investing, building an excellent credit history, finding resources, homeownership, and passing down assets. Room 1125 |

Honoring Hispanic Women in STEM: Inspiring the Next Generation Drs. Jessica Espinoza and Suzanne Cruz will highlight the accomplishments of Hispanic women in STEM and explore how their stories can be shared with young learners in K–3 classrooms. Early childhood majors will learn how to design culturally responsive activities that promote curiosity and confidence in STEM while honoring heritage. Examples will include incorporating storytelling about pioneers such as Ellen Ochoa (astronaut), Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski (physicist), and Dr. Antonia Novello (physician and U.S. Surgeon General), alongside developmentally appropriate STEM activities like building simple rockets, exploring patterns in science and math, or conducting hands-on health and wellness investigations. The session will emphasize strategies for promoting more girls’ engagement in STEM through positive representation and inclusive classroom practices.

Voices of the Future: Honoring the Legacy of Hispanic Interpreters and Translators This event celebrates the rich and diverse heritage of the Hispanic community by exploring the critical role of language and communication. As we honor the past and inspire the future, we invite you to join us for an event that highlights the importance of translation and interpretation in preserving culture and connecting communities. The event will feature a panel of recent graduates from our Translation and Interpretation program, who will share their experiences and career journeys, providing a glimpse into the thriving industry for new Hispanic professionals. Following this, a special presentation will demystify the role of AI in the translation industry, showcasing how new technologies are empowering the next generation of linguists. The day will conclude with a mini-job fair, providing a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to connect with local agencies and employers, helping them forge their path and contribute to the collective heritage of language and culture. Okaeri: History on the Scree, Heritage on the Plate (Closing Event) Join us for a powerful cultural experience where film and food come together to tell the story of Japanese Peruvian identity. Explore the untold histories of Nikkei communities through the historical fiction film Okaeri: The Spy of the Rising Sun and savor an authentic Nikkei dish that bridges two cultures on one plate. William Osorio: MOAD’s Artist in Residence @ Padrón Campus Beginning on October 20th until January 2026, William Osorio will be filling MDC’s Padrón Campus Art Gallery with richly textured artworks and building upon his practice, which meditates on art history, literature, and the reinterpretation of myths, bringing fresh perspectives to the canvas. The College and local community are invited to stop by the gallery and see the artist at work, ask questions, and get involved in the creative process. October 20, 2025 - January 2026 |
