This Libguide serves to celebrate Testing Professionals Week from May 5 through May 9 at MDC with various themes/topics for each day.

Celebrate Testing Professionals Week with Testing and Assessment.

We are celebrating from May 5-9, 2025. This is a new tradition for Testing and Assessment to spotlight what they do for our students and show their appreciation to their dedicated staff. 

So why dedicate an entire week to Testing Professionals? 

Testing Professionals play a crucial role in helping students achieve their academic goals, whether it's supporting enrollment, retention, completion, or certifications. They are always professionals in what they do in their roles by patiently answer questions, offer encouragement, and inspire a love for learning.

As we celebrate Testing Professionals Week, let's come together as a community of students, faculty, and staff to shine a spotlight on their dedication and commitment to helping our students succeed. Whether it's a heartfelt thank-you note or simply a warm smile, every gesture matters. Let's show our testing professionals that their dedication and hard work are recognized and cherished.

Monday, May 5th

Monday - Enrollment

Did you know?

Testing and Assessment supports enrollment through the administration of various placement exams. Our department is dedicated to ensuring that we provide support for high school and First-Time-In-College (FTIC) students by assessing them for placement and enrollment in the appropriate credit courses to maximize their academic success.

We administer the following placement exams to support enrollment:

  • ACCUPLACER ESL & Next-Generation (NG)
  • Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT)
  • Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)
  • American College Testing (ACT)

Additionally, we support Adult Education, Career and Technical Education, and REVEST enrollment by administering:

  • Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
  • Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS)

The Testing and Assessment professionals at MDC are committed to providing accurate and timely assessments to facilitate smooth enrollment processes for all students.

Fun Facts: Testing and Assessment professionals administered over 11,800 ACCUPLACER (ESL & NG) and 35,400 CASAS exams since July 1, 2024.

Tuesday, May 6th

Tuesday - Retention

Did you know?

Testing and Assessment plays a crucial role in supporting student retention. Our department is dedicated to providing various testing formats and accommodations to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed and continue their educational journey.

We support retention through the following services:

  • Remote Testing: MDC Internet Based Proctoring (iBP)
  • Chemistry Acceleration Readiness Test (CART): An internet-based test for students seeking to take CHM1045 and bypass CHM1025.
  • MDC Online: Offering flexible online testing options to accommodate students' schedules and learning preferences.
  • ACCESS Testing: Offering accommodation and support for students with disabilities to ensure they have equal access to testing and assessment services. Ensuring that traditional testing methods are available for students who prefer or require them.

The Testing and Assessment professionals at MDC are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive testing environment that helps students stay on track and achieve their academic goals.

Interesting Fact: MDC Testing and Assessment was the first state college to offer in-house remote proctoring services for our students and students from other institutions.

Wednesday, May 7th

Wednesday - Completion

Did you know?

Testing and Assessment plays a crucial role in supporting students' completion of their degrees. Our efforts are focused on administering various exams that facilitate students' progress towards graduation.

  • Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE): As part of the graduation requirement, all degree-seeking students must demonstrate competency in civic literacy. College-wide in-person and remote bootcamps are offered to support this effort.

  • CLEP/DSST Exams: Our department administers CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) and DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) exams, which enable students to earn college credits by passing standardized tests in various subjects.

  • Institutional Credit by Examination (iCBE) CGS1060C: Students can earn credits for the CGS1060C course through our iCBE program and satisfy the computer competency graduation requirement through the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) department.

The Testing and Assessment professionals at MDC are commitment to supporting students' academic success is reflected in these initiatives. By providing multiple pathways to earn credits and fulfill graduation requirements, we help students achieve their educational goals more efficiently.

Proud Moment:

For the third year in a row, Testing and Assessment received the CLEP® Honors National Achievement award for administering the highest CLEP exam volumes. This distinction placed MDC among the Top 20 CLEP Test Centers in the United States.

Testing and Assessment supports a wide range of certifications to help students and community members advance their careers. Our department is dedicated to providing access to various certification exams that are recognized and valued in numerous industries.

Here are just a few of the certification exams in the areas of education, health sciences, justice, nursing and technology that we administer.

  • Adobe: Enhance your skills in creative software and digital media.
  • Apple Swift: Demonstrate your proficiency in Apple's Swift programming language.
  • Childcare: Obtain Florida Department of Children and Families certifications to advance in the childcare and early education field.
  • (AWS) Amazon Web Services: Validate your expertise in cloud computing and AWS technologies.
  • (FTCE) Florida Teacher Certification Examination
  • (FELE) Florida Educational Leadership Examination
  • (GED) General Educational Development
  • (SOCE) State Officer Certification Examination
  • (NREMT) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
  • (ESB) Entrepreneurship and Small Business): Gain credentials to support your entrepreneurial endeavors.
