Using your Google account to check out audiobooks

Audiobooks app now supports downloading Audiobooks checked out while signed in with Google.

When signing in to check out an Audiobook on EBSCOhost or EBSCO Discovery Service, click the Sign in with Google button and enter your Google credentials.

Authenticate the EBSCO Audiobooks app with your Google Credentials

To sign in to the Audiobooks app with your Google credentials:

  1. After installation, open the Audiobooks app and tap the Log In button.

  2. Tap the Sign in with Google button on the Log In screen. You are brought to the EBSCO login screen on your device's browser.

  3. Enter the email address or phone number with which you sign into Google and click Next.

  4. Enter the password for your Google account and click Next. You are automatically redirected back to the Audiobooks app after signing in.

  5. From the list of your checked out Audiobooks, tap the title you would like to download to the app.

Note: The browser window that is opened when you signed in is not automatically closed. You can close the window or choose to ignore it after signing in. It will not affect your authentication to the Audiobooks app.

Which portable audio devices are compatible with EBSCO Audiobooks?

Audiobooks can be downloaded to the following devices using the EBSCO Audiobooks app.

  • Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 10 or higher.

  • Android phone or tablet running Android version 4.1 or higher.

The app is available for download from iTunes and Google Play.

Using mobile devices to access Audiobooks

In order to listen to Audiobooks you have borrowed, you must download them to an Apple or Android device using the EBSCO Audiobooks mobile app available from iTunes and Google Play.

You must also be logged in to your My EBSCOhost account to borrow an Audiobook. You can create a create new account with an email address or use your Google credentials to create an account and sign in.

Downloading an Audiobook

Audiobooks can be downloaded using the EBSCO Audiobooks App, available for Apple devices running iOS 10 and higher and Android devices running version 4.1 and higher. It can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play.

Once you have checked out an Audiobook, you can download it to the Audiobooks app on your device.

To download audiobooks using the app:

  1.  From your title search results list, click the Borrow link to chek out the audiobook.

  2. If you are not already signed in, sign into My EBSCOhost with your personal user ID and password. Or Sign in with your Google account.

  3. Note: If you do not have a user ID and password to borrow audiobooks, please contact the Learning Resources staff at your campus. 

  4. Select a borrowing duration from the drop-down menu and click the Borrow button.

  5. Choose check out Duration

    Next, you are prompted to download and install the EBSCO Audiobooks App to your Apple or Android device.

  6. After installing the app on your device, open the app and tap the Log In button.

  7. Sign in with the My EBSCOhost user ID and password (Or Google account credentials) you used to check out the audiobook on EBSCOhost. Or

    Click the Single Sign On link and enter the credentials provided by your institution.

  8. Your borrowed audiobook titles are displayed on the All books tab in the app. Tap an audiobook to access the Details screen.

  9. Tap the Download button to save the audiobook to device to listen offline or tap the Play button to stream the audiobook over your device's data connection.

    Note: The audiobook Runtime is displayed below along with other details about the audiobook title.

  10. After your title has downloaded, tap the Play button to begin listening to the audiobook.

 

Removing a Downloaded Audiobook from the App

To remove an Audiobook download:

  1. From the Details view for an audiobook title, tap the Download indicator or the Delete & Stream link.

  2. Tap Yes, Delete to confirm that you wish to delete the file from your device.

The downloaded file is removed from your device but the audiobook is still available to stream until your checkout expires. When your checkout expires, it will no longer appear in the Checkouts area of your folder.
