The WeLearn 366 Institute fosters and supports organic opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to engage in co-creation and co-learning.

Peer-Led Team Learning - PLTL

The WeLearn366 Institute at MDC – Eduardo J. Padrón Campus offers Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) to faculty redesigning courses as a supplemental service for their students.  Peer-Led Team Learning is a model of collaborative learning, in which trained peer leaders facilitate small group learning activities that support students’ understanding of course content. The goals of PLTL sessions are for students to explore different problem-solving techniques, encourage active learning, and to inspire teamworking.  Promoting student support initiatives such as Peer-Led Team Learning foster academic success and can lead to student persistence and retention.

Faculty who chose to implement PLTL will be asked to recommend students who previously excelled in their course.  These students will be trained as Peer Leaders who will facilitate PLTL sessions.   These Faculty Mentors will provide mentoring to Student Peer Leaders and implement PLTL as support for their redesigned courses.  Accommodations and schedules for PLTL sessions will be arranged by the Grant Academic Manager in collaboration with the faculty and peer leaders.  They will be offered in person or cyber/virtual pending on the corresponding course modality.

Implementation of PLT is scheduled to start in Fall 2022 (Year 3) with student recruitment, recommendation, and training taking place in Summer 2022.
