West Guide to Student Services: Title V Grant

Live West Proud

Title V Grant Information

We are excited to announce that West Campus has been awarded a Title V grant. Our project aims to increase pass rates, increase the percentage of students who pass the next-level Gordon Rule Courses, and increase literacy success in career preparation courses.

This will be accomplished by providing students with engaging success spas to increase completion rates and provide students with co-requisite instruction to prepare them for interdisciplinary career pathways. Studies show that six out of every ten jobs now and, in the future, will require postsecondary education and training. Yet, at a time when more individuals are projected to attend colleges and universities, college completion rates are falling.

The project brings together a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and partners in business and academia. We will provide innovative, concentrated professional development focused on curriculum design, development, and instruction leading to faculty creating contextualized course materials for literacy gateway courses.

The structure will include features such as module completion for particular outcomes in these courses. Some faculty will collaborate with local employers to create an innovative curriculum that exposes students to literacy needs for degrees and career pathways.

The project will also provide a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning that integrates:

  1. success spas
  2. intrusive and comprehensive advisement to increase progression and completion benchmark achievement
  3. metacognitive learning strategies
  4. a comprehensive Early Alerts and Intervention System.
