Recommended Professional Development Pathway for New Faculty

Below is the recommended path for full-time faculty new to teaching at MDC. Note: It is strongly recommended that new full-time faculty take the FSA before the ACUE Course on Effective Teaching Practices. The FSA should be taken in their first year at the College.

  1. New Faculty Orientation (NFO): Faculty who start in the fall or spring attend this 2-day orientation which is usually offered at the beginning of the major terms.
  2. Faculty Success Academy (FSA): New faculty attend the FSA, a two-term seminar-type experience, during their first two major terms at the College (fall+spring or spring+fall). Contact Jose Rodriguez (jrodri28@mdc.edu) in CIOL find the most appropriate cohort to join.
  3. ACUE “Effective Teaching Practices” Course: New faculty take the ACUE course on “Effective Teaching Practices” during their second or third year at the College. Successful completion of the restricted section of the ACUE course for annual contract faculty is one of the requirements to be eligible to apply for continuing contract. Contact Jose Rodriguez (jrodri28@mdc.edu) in CIOL for details on how to register for the correct cohort.
