An argumentative / research paper, it is crucial that student have their main point, or argument clearly and concisely thought out. Students will learn tips and tricks to help them to create a compelling, specific, and convincing thesis statement. This workshop will also go over ways to help students structure their essays more effectively (outlining, freewriting techniques, visual venn diagrams, etc.).

How to Write a Research Paper

The research paper is often the "capstone" of your course, which means that it tests how well you can do all the writing skills you learned throughout the semester. In this Skillshop, then, attendees will review how to read assignment sheets, select a topic just right for research, outline your paper, write effective introductions/thesis statements and conclusions, and the difference between quotation, paraphrase, summary, and citation when including other people's ideas in your paper--as well as when it is best to do each--to successfully tackle your biggest writing assignment.
