Prompts, Thesis Statements, and Outlines

Before beginning an argumentative / research paper, it is crucial that student have their main point, or argument clearly and concisely thought out. Students will learn tips and tricks to help them to create a compelling, specific, and convincing thesis statement. This workshop will also go over ways to help students structure their essays more effectively (outlining, freewriting techniques, visual venn- diagrams, etc.).

Mastering Proofreading: Understanding Parts of Speech and Leveraging AI Technology

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand the essentials of proofreading, including identifying and correcting errors in grammar, punctuation, and style. They will be able to recognize and effectively use parts of speech, improve the mechanics of their writing, enhance the quality of their academic writing, and utilize AI tools to assist in the proofreading process. Participants will gain confidence in their ability to produce clear, concise, and error-free written work.

The research paper is often the "capstone" of your course, which means that it tests how well you can do all the writing skills you learned throughout the semester. In this Skillshop, then, attendees will review how to read assignment sheets, select a topic just right for research, outline your paper, write effective introductions/thesis statements and conclusions, and the difference between quotation, paraphrase, summary, and citation when including other people's ideas in your paper--as well as when it is best to do each--to successfully tackle your biggest writing assignment.

This workshop will equip participants with techniques to write clear, engaging, and effective content for presentations. By focusing on the structure, content, and visual design of presentation materials, participants will learn to effectively communicate their message and engage their audience.
