Darrell Arnold, Ph.D. in philosophy

Darrell Arnold is Associate Professor of philosophy at MDC North campus. He is philosophical generalist who has done specialized work in the history of philosophy, environmental philosophy and the philosophy of technology. Among other things, he teaches an array of areas of applied ethics from environmental ethics to business ethics, and bioethics to AI ethics. He is editor of Traditions of Systems Theory (Routledge) and Critical Theory and the Thought of Andrew Feenberg (Palgrave/MacMillan). He has also translated various works from German into English including Naturalistic Hermeneutics (Cambridge UP) and Media of Reason (Columbia UP). From 2014 to 2019 he was president of the Humanities and Technology Association, an interdisciplinary society for the study of areas at the juncture of technology and society. He was the editor of the association's journal, The Humanities and Technology Review, from 2012 to 2014. Before coming the MDC, he was a faculty member at St. Thomas University (Miami Gardens) as well as the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and Colorado State University, Pueblo. While at St. Thomas University he was interim dean for the 2015-16 academic year, director of the Institute for World Languages and Cultures in 2013-14 and program coordinator for the liberal studies and philosophy programs from 2016 to 2018. In 2023, Darrell won the Changemaking Education Award from the Return Peace Corp Volunteers of South Florida. He is a professor in the MDC Honors College, Co-chair of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) subcommittee on co-curricular actives and the Co-chair of the Changemaking Committee at North Campus.
