Cargo & load documents. The Bill of Lading and other documents
The most common cargo and load documentation used by the trucking industry in the US includes:
- Bill of Lading (BOL): It is a legal document that acts as a receipt of the shipment and outlines the terms and conditions of the transportation agreement between the shipper and the carrier company.
- Delivery Receipt: It is a document that confirms the delivery of the shipment and serves as proof that the carrier completed the transportation obligation.
- Freight Bill: It is a document that provides details of the transportation charges for the shipment.
- Commercial Invoice: It is a document that provides a detailed description of the goods being shipped, their value, and other essential information required for customs clearance.
- Packing List: It is a document that outlines the contents of the shipment, including the quantity, weight, dimensions, and other relevant details.
Note: different and more specific documentation occurs depending on the nature of the load, the mode of transportation, companies’ policies, and other factors.
