By embodying the belief that “everyone is a changemaker,” MDC is an active institutional agent of change, promoting a resilient community founded on an understanding of natural systems, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.
To promote the development of skills and perspectives that take people beyond ordinary limits to make positive and relevant changes for themselves and their communities, no matter how big or small.
Changemaking involves the desire to make a positive change in the world, and the gathering of knowledge and resources to make it happen. Changemakers believe in the potential of their ideas, and use a combination of knowledge, resources, and determination to push those ideas forward. Through empathy and leadership, they work with others to transform their ideas into reality.
Changemaking at Democracy’s College is defined by the belief that everyone can become a changemaker, and by a respect for changemaking in all forms, big and small. This broad approach to changemaking is consistent with the diversity of the community that MDC serves, and with MDC’s track record of turning that diversity into a life-changing opportunity for its 160,000 students and more than two million alumns. Changemaking is who we are and what we do at MDC.
Our campus IMPACT teams serve as our changemaking champions across MDC. They lead the coordination of opportunities and resources to bring about changemaking experiences both inside and outside of our classrooms.
