About President's Innovation Award

MDC President's Innovation Fund

The President's Innovation Fund (Innovation Fund) is a competitive grant program for full-time faculty with the strategic goal of encouraging and supporting faculty innovators who will experiment with and develop evidence-based learning models that can be extended to other faculty and courses at Miami Dade College and beyond. Projects can be proposed by individual faculty or faculty teams, and there will be up to 10 awards per grant cycle with a maximum award amount of $10,000. This is intended to support faculty professional growth by funding projects to improve student learning. More information can be found here: https://www.mdc.edu/innovate/

About AIBIS

The purpose of Artificial Intelligence for Business Innovation and Sustainability (AIBIS) is to promote student engagement, applied learning, and career success by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum content in active-learning business classrooms, in which students will answer how to create and foster sustainable business practices using AI.  

What is AIBIS:

  • This is a faculty driven project primarily in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision & Management and Bachelor of Applied Science in Supply Chain Management programs in the School of Global Business at Miami Dade College. 
  • Project leads are Dr. Rahnuma Ahsan, Dr. Milena Loubeau and Dr. Richard Sarabia
  • The team collaborated with Ms. Shamsha Karim from Learning Resources and the Business Innovation & Technology Center for student engagement, curriculum support material and student project showcase. 

AIBIS Accomplishments

Dr. Rahnuma Ahsan, Dr. Milena Loubeau and Dr. Richard Sarabia implemented the project Artificial Intelligence for Business Innovation and Sustainability (AIBIS) in Spring 2023 and Fall 2023. Here are the outcomes of this project:

  • This project received 2022 President’s Innovation Fund award.
  • Under this project 64 students showcased AI tools and techniques used for their proposed businesses.
  • In addition, with the help of BIT center, 42 students from this project completed a Coursera course titled ‘AI for Everyone’.
  • Student Rosalyn Lax presented the Business Capstone (MAN4900) project to Alan Davidson, Deputy Secretary of Commerce, at the invitation of VP Antonio Delgado on July 7, 2023. This student was part of AIBIS project.
  • Ms. Shamsha Karim from Learning Resources created a LibGuide to curate Open Educational Resources (OER) on AI applications in business
