Biography

Taurie Gittings-Wheeler

Taurie Gittings Wheeler is an Associate Professor, Senior of Humanities at MDC. She earned an MS degree focusing on interdisciplinary arts from NOVA Southeastern University, a master’s of humanities (special emphasis in Art & Visual Media) from Tiffin University, and a BS in theatre from Florida A&M University. She is an artisan, performer, and educator, with twenty-five years of experience. Professor Gittings Wheeler teaches humanities, cinema, art, and theatre appreciation. She is passionate about global education and has led five summer study-abroad trips (England, France, Italy, and Greece). She is currently working on teaching Indonesian Culture and Language using artificial intelligence and was accepted into the Fulbright Hays GPA Fellowship program in Indonesia. Over the years she has been very involved at MDC, serving on various campus committees. and is the recipient of the 2023-2025 AT&T II Endowed Teaching Chair award and the 2024 NISOD Excellence in Teaching award.

Biography

John Frazier

Miami Dade College Professor John Frazier, who has taught Art History and Museum Studies for 13 years, is a respected non-Western cultural expert and a Fulbright Fellow. He has consulted with the United Nations, UNICEF, the Louvre Museum, the Walt Disney Company, and the U.S. Department of Education, and his global work has supported diverse communities such as the Baka Peoples of central Africa and Mexican street artists. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including two Endowed Teaching Chairs, the NISOD Distinguished Faculty Award, the Dale P. Parnell National Faculty Award, and Colgate University's Humanitarian Alumni Award. His college students have raised more than $4.5 million for social causes and contributed 75,000 community service hours, benefiting 550,000 global citizens. In his article, "Creating a Generation of Humanitarian Art Activists (Artivists)," Frazier explores how education empowers students to change the world.
