Biography

Gus Bowles was born in 1883 in the state of Georgia. Additionally, both of his parents were also from Georgia. He was a black man, who did not attend school, yet he was able to read and write.

According to the 1930 US Census, he lived in West Dixie Highway in Precinct 68, Dade, Florida. The property is listed as a farm, number 39, which he owned. Additionally, his occupation was truck farmer. Furthermore, he was married to Alvenera Bowles, age 40 at the time of the report. They married at the ages of 24 and 17.

Alvenera Bowles was born in 1890 in the state of Florida, and both of her parents were Bahamian immigrants. She did not attend school but also knew how to read and write. She was a homemaker.
