Getting Started Guides
This starter kit has been created to provide instructors with an introduction to the use and creation of open educational resources (OER). The text is broken into five sections: Getting Started, Copyright, Finding OER, Teaching with OER, and Creating OER. Although some chapters contain more advanced content, the starter kit is primarily intended for users who are entirely new to Open Education. [Version 1.1. Revised September 5th, 2019.]
Now that you know what open education is and why it matters, how do you get started using OER? Check out this resource to find out more about how to start your open education journey.
This guide outlines entry points, processes, and supports for increasing OER use in online education.
Self-Paced Tutorials on OER
The Community College Consortium for OER (CCCOER) created a five-week series of OER tutorials. that are free and open for anyone to use. These are ideal for faculty, librarians, and instructional designers who are new to OER or need a refresher on basic concepts related to finding, adapting, and teaching with open educational resources.
Although developed by and for OER advocates in Texas, this series of self-paced online learning modules contains information that can be applied anywhere and serves as an introduction to OER and as an opportunity for further exploration and discovery of open education practices. The tenth module serves as a final assessment of your learning. Throughout the modules there are opportunities for you to test your knowledge and further explore a concept.
