Who is D.N.A? D.N.A stands for Dario Nicolas Ayala. Short background story of D.N.A; He is an Ecuadorian- American with a diverse background. He has lived in the States, South America and Asia which have significantly widened his perspective in all aspects of life. Volunteering and helping communities around South Asia are some of D.N.A’s most proud accomplishments. He has a strong devotion for sciences, but more specifically the respective field of neurology. Currently he is pursuing an associate’s in Biology and a certificate in Neuroscience & Aging at Miami Dade College. His passion for research has led him to be accepted into the American Heart Association- Hispanic Serving Institute Scholar Program. D.N.A intends to continue doing research in regard to stress and become a Neurointensivist.

Valeria Cohen has had a lifelong interest in science and nature and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in biology at Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida. Her enduring passion for science has led her to participate in incredible opportunities through the School of Science as an undergraduate researcher studying carbon nanotechnology and, most recently, high-fat diet induced brain inflammation and its link to cognitive disease. She enjoys spending time outdoors, likes learning about astronomy, and keeping up with the latest news on space exploration. Valeria has ambitions to study medicine.

Gerson Font is a second-year college student from Miami, Florida. He is currently advancing his studies at Miami Dade's College Padron Campus. He is an active member of multiple honor societies, including Phi Theta Kappa and the National Society of Leadership and Success. This spring, Gerson plans to transfer to Florida International University and pursue a Bachelor's in Psychology. He will continue his research this fall and pursue new opportunities for the new year. Gerson hopes to enroll in a graduate program for clinical Psychology after completing his Bachelor's degree. |
Smith Cardine Mondesir graduated from Miami Dade College with an associate degree in biology in spring 2021. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Biopharmaceutical Sciences. Smith is highly renowned for being one of the School of Science's most engaged students as this is her fourth research project with SRI. She has also served as a STEM Tutor and a STEM Ambassador over the past two years. She currenlty works as an Instructional Assistant for the School of Science at the North Campus. |
Rene Ortega is in his second year at Miami Dade College, where he is pursuing an associate in science degree before transferring to a 4-year university to obtain a bachelor degree in biochemistry. He is a recipient of an Honors College Scholarship, which covers his 2-year tuition. He has also been awarded the American Dream Scholarship, Dean’s List, Bronze Level Civic Action Award, and is a 2022 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. Rene is the Director of Scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at his college, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), and the treasurer of the MDC North Campus Chess Club. |

Maikel Valdes is a second-year student, and lives in Miami, Florida. Primarily interested in studying consciousness, and how ideas influence brain chemistry, Maikel works as a behavioral therapist. His job is to teach patients how to live a normal, happy, and fulfilling life while navigating their disabilities. On his days off, Maikel engages in reading and writing poetry to channel his true emotions and ideas. He is currently a member of the PKA and Psi Beta clubs and is interested in eventually attending John Hopkins in Maryland. |
