Manuel Albarran Fabiana Arcila Silvana Camacaro

Manuel Albarran is a second-year student at Miami Dade College, West Campus. Born and raised in Venezuela, Manuel moved to the United States in July 2023 in hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field, starting with an Associate of Arts degree in Biology at Miami Dade College. Aside from researching, participating in student organizations, and studying towards his health-related goals, Manuel also works as a student assistant and civic ambassador with the iCED department of West Campus, supporting and promoting civic engagement among members of Miami Dade College – as well as its surrounding communities.

An enthusiastic student at the School for Advanced Studies (SAS) West, Fabiana Arcila is deeply committed to understanding and solving the complex challenges within the healthcare system. She is passionate about exploring gaps in medical practices and the systemic issues that hinder effective healthcare delivery, alongside preventative techniques that enhance long-term health outcomes. Fabiana has a keen interest in both cardiovascular research and psychiatric or psychological studies, reflecting her broad academic interests that align with her career ambitions in medicine. With personal aspirations to be a groundbreaking contributor to public health, her professional goals are centered on becoming a physician, specializing either as a psychiatrist or a cardiothoracic surgeon. Through her academic journey and research, Fabiana aims to make substantial contributions that bridge the gap between medical research and clinical practice, enhancing patient care and healthcare methodologies.

Originally hailing from Venezuela, Silvana Camacaro is a second-year pre-nursing student at Miami Dade College, standing out for her exceptional involvement and leadership across campus. She is a proud member of the Dual Language Honors program, the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the Pre-health Society. Her leadership extends to serving as a senator in the Student Government Association and as president of the Biology Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta. Silvana's hard work and outstanding GPA have earned her a spot on the Dean's List. She is driven by a deep passion for healthcare and a commitment to scientific exploration. Silvana's career aspirations are to become a nurse and ultimately attend medical school to specialize in surgery. Additionally, her fascination with neuroscience has inspired her to pursue a minor in the field. Beyond her academic and leadership roles, Silvana is a content creator for the campus magazine, Urbana, and its podcast. She shares her artistic abilities through these creative outlets and engages with the community, showcasing her diverse talents and passions. With a strong work ethic, unwavering passion, and multifaceted skill set, Silvana is ready to impact the healthcare field and the community significantly.

Patricia Felipe holds a BA in Chemistry and Applied Sciences from Florida International University (FIU), where she developed a solid understanding of essential laboratory techniques. She sees the symposium as a valuable chance to network with other science students and foster connections that can lead to future collaborations and opportunities. With aspirations of a healthcare career, Patricia is focused on gaining more experience in science to help achieve her long-term professional goals.

 

 

My name is Ethan Fitzgerald, and I am a 17-year-old high school senior eager to major in biomedical engineering. Having diabetes has dramatically affected my life, and therefore, I want to dedicate my research to this disease. This experience has only heightened my desire to be a biomedical engineer and a doctor in the future. I am motivated by the passion to create change in the delivery of healthcare services and positively transform people’s lives. Jessika Garcia has a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, a second major in Natural & Applied Science, and a minor in Biology and Psychology from Florida International University. She first completed her AA in Miami Dade West Campus where she was actively researching how the consumption of e-cigarettes can increase the chances of having cancer. After completing her bachelor's degree, she continued doing research at Miami Dade. She worked on various projects including her latest one on how Artificial Intelligence can manage hypertension. She presented her last work at the 2024 LSSF STEM Undergraduate Research Symposium at Florida International University. Jessika aspires to continue her career in the medical field.

Manuela Grisales is an ambitious and dedicated biology major with a profound commitment to making a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector. Raised in an environment that prioritized compassion and knowledge-sharing, she has nurtured a deep-seated desire to contribute to the well-being of others. Throughout her academic journey, Manuela's exceptional performance has been fueled by an inherent curiosity about the natural world and a belief in biology's potential to alleviate human suffering. While her ultimate goal is to secure a position in a large hospital, her aspirations extend beyond clinical practice; she seeks to become a mentor and educator, empowering others to achieve their goals. Recognizing the pivotal role of research in advancing medical knowledge, Manuela is driven by a passion to make a difference and views every challenge as an opportunity for growth. With her unwavering determination, boundless enthusiasm, and compassion, Manuela Grisales is poised to leave a lasting mark in the field of biology and healthcare.

Sophia Jerez is from Venezuela. Currently, she attends Miami Dade College pursuing an associate degree in biological sciences and planning to transfer to a four-year university. During her undergraduate studies, she aspires to gain valuable experience as a researcher to enhance her existing abilities and broaden her understanding across various branches of biology, encompassing plants, animals, humans, and other living organisms. Graduating from a STEM major like biology will equip her with the essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career as a medical doctor, which is her ultimate professional goal.

Amanda Martinez, graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Florida International University (FIU). During my academic career, I developed a strong passion for the field of chemistry, particularly in exploring how it intersects with everyday life and innovative technologies. Her studies have equipped her with a solid foundation in analytical techniques, laboratory research, and problem-solving, and she is excited to continue growing in this dynamic field. Participating in this symposium is an incredible opportunity for her to engage with other students and to expand her knowledge.

Therry Mathurin Carlos Paez Jerviz Melanie Rodriguez Chang
Therry Mathurin is a second-year student at Miami Dade North campus, who is pursuing an associate degree in dietetics. He is on the path of transferring to FIU to finish his bachelors. He wants to take full advantage of the research opportunities given to him, to get the practice, experience, and understanding in conducting impactful research. He is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a current elementary school tutor. Therry Mathurin is grateful for the opportunities provided by MDC to learn and make a difference in the world. He is obsessed with seeing progress and making hard changes for the better, which motivates him to get into research. His end goal is to become a world-class surgeon and mentor to future doctors in developing countries.

Carlos Paez Jerviz is in his second year at Miami Dade College West Campus, where he is a premed student majoring in Biology, pursuing an associate in arts degree in order to transfer to a 4-year university and obtain a bachelor degree, and then apply to medical school. He serves as the Student Government Association President at the West Campus, as well as an Alumni Student Ambassador for Miami Dade College Alumni Department. He has been awarded the 2024 Civic Action Bronze Award, and the Dean's Honor Roll. He is the former Vice-President of the Venezuelan Student Society, and a current member of the honor societies of Phi Theta Kappa and Psi Beta, as well as other student organizations.

 

Melanie is currently pursuing her Associate’s degree at Miami Dade College and is majoring in Microbiology and Immunology. Alongside her academic pursuits, she is actively involved in extracurricular activities that align with her passion for science and healthcare. Melanie is deeply interested in neurobiology and cardiovascular health and dedicates time to volunteering in healthcare settings and participating in science related opportunities. With plans to attend medical school, Melanie is committed to contributing to the medical field and to the advancement of public health.

Manuel Rodriguez Miranda Taylhardat Genesis Vega
Manuel Rodriguez was born in Venezuela, and has been living in the United States for the last seven years. He is a second year Honors student at Miami Dade College, and is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated as a Summa Cum Laude student, and earned the AP scholar award in high school. Currently, he is serving as part of the e-board for the Florida Engineering Society at his home campus, Wolfson, and is also part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor society. Aside from academics, some of his interests are playing the piano, Volleyball, and just learning new hobbies in general. In the future, he has intentions to research alternatives for harmful materials and fuels, and hopes to be able to discover or further develop more eco-friendly replacements. Miranda Taylhardat: A first-year student at Miami Dade College, West Campus while pursuing an associate degree in psychology at MDC. Member of Psi Beta a scholastic honor society and Vice President of the psychology club on her campus. She is currently working on research, A Cost-Benefit Analysis on Telehealth and its impact on healthcare and implications for the health insurance industry working alongside faculty mentors Varum Ramberran and Trinidad Arguelles. Genesis Vega born in Miami, comes from a Puerto Rican/Honduran immigrant household where working hard and striving for excellence in everything she does was taught at a very young age. She is currently finishing her first year at Miami Dade College Honors College where she is majoring in biology. Originally studying to accomplish a career within the forensics field, she has recently changed to a pre-medicine track. After years of volunteering for her local church, Elevate Church, she realized her love for working with children of all ages. The secretary for the Global Medical Brigades club and participating in her first year of research, she has a strong desire to grow within her knowledge of all science fields and gain meaningful experiences along the way. In the future she hopes to pursue a career as a pediatric hospitalist. Bringing together her understanding of science and love for children, to make a difference in the medical field. She aims to bring hope to families with children facing illnesses, and to help provide a positive work environment. Dedicating her time to creating bonds with patients and aiding as much care as she can.

Ivana Vidal    
Ivana Vidal was born in Venezuela and immigrated to the United States in 2017. She is majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics, and she is in her second year at Miami Dade College West Campus. She will be transferring to FIU in 2025 in order to finish her bachelor’s degree. With aspirations of then going to PA school. Ivana Vidal is an active student and MDC, and she is an e-board member of the Pre-Health student organization at the west campus.
