3-D Printing

Images of 3D printers

3-D printing is the process of making a three-dimensional object from a computer file. This is an additive process where thin layers of material are applied until the object is formed.

The Makerspace offers both two 3-D printers: Ultimaker S5 and XYZPrint PartPro 150 xP

The CR Clarke CR25-115 machine uses injection molding principles to produce high-quality moldings. A mold is fitted into the adjustable vice in the lower section of the machine. Material to be injected is loaded into the hopper at the top of the temperature-controlled heating barrel. Once heated, the material is injected into the mold cavity by rotating the capstan handle. The injected material is allowed to cool, and then the vice is opened. An integrated stripper plate allows moldings to be released automatically should the mold be fitted with suitable ejector pins. The completed molding is immediately ready for use. The machine can be used both for single pieces and for continuous manufacturing.

The CR Clarke CR1210 Vacuum Former is fitted with a robust diaphragm vacuum pump that generates -0.83 Bar, and also provides a blow release facility to aid removal of the completed forming. The ceramic heater system heats all thermoplastic materials quickly and evenly.
