Overview

Reading is a given in college: no matter your major, you will be reading a lot. Sometimes it might be difficult to decipher what the message or purpose is of a piece of writing. The Reading & Writing Center will facilitate reading workshops so students can gain useful reading and note-taking strategies.

In this workshop, students will learn to explain the differences and uses of summarizing and paraphrasing. Students will learn how to correctly format their paraphrased information to avoid plagiarism or misrepresenting their original sources, how to create a summary that does not have needless details, and how to identify which kind of source usage will work best depending on the various aspects of their writing.
