This project inspired by UN Sustainable Development Goal #5 -- achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls -- communicates the struggles, feelings and discovery of being a woman. The usage of materials such as silk organza in the back of the work is to show the seams that us women are so encouraged to hide. Throughout the panels, topics of femininity, work, prejudice, misogyny, and hope are displayed in a tactile manner for the interpretation of the person seeing it and touching it. The name La Cobija, or the blanket, is inspired in a catchphrase from my hometown that says "uno se arropa hasta donde le alcanza la cobija," which translates to: one covers itself up to where the blanket reaches.
