A 2nd-year student at the Honors College at Wolfson Campus. She is Cuban and became a Florida permanent resident in August 2021 when she first arrived in the U.S. Her major is Chemical Engineering, which correlates with her passion for science, such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry. She works as a part-time Math tutor, which is very fulfilling since it allows her to experience how much of a positive impact she can have on people. She also works as an intern for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on a project related to toxic elements in food. Her dream is to transfer to MIT to continue her educational journey once she graduates from Miami Dade College with her associate degree. Learning the methodologies and techniques followed in research projects has provided her with a magnificent foundation for her future as a professional. She is attracted to studying environmental issues that humanity struggles with nowadays. She wants to focus her study on some of the consequences of climate change, such as its role in infectious diseases that are becoming immune to the known drugs used to combat them. When studying climate change and its consequences, she wants to apply the concept of “thinking globally and acting locally,” which she learned after attending the Global Citizenship Alliance Seminar in Salzburg as part of the Honors College cohort in Spring 2023. |
