The AI Ethics Toolbox is being created as one initiative of the Miami Dade College President’s Innovation Fund for 2024-25. The Toolbox is a resource for AI Ethics professors and students at Miami Dade College. A key element of this initiative is the Libguide with AI Ethics resources. This Libguide initially includes articles and videos on AI relevant to ethics and the humanities more generally. It will eventually include links to diverse large language models along with assignment descriptions and examples able to be modelled and adopted by other faculty of this subject matter. The Libguide wil serve as a key training tool for our AI Ethics chatbot, a further part of The AI Ethics Toolbox, also being developed within the parameters of the President’s Innovation Fund award.
The Libguide provides resources for an overview of major ethical theories. It also highlights issues of particular importance in AI ethics in specific domains of contemporary life: AI in Healthcare, AI in Education, AI in Policing and so on. Finally, it highlights some ethical values of particular importance: Safety, Privacy, Accountability, Equality.
Though an enormous amount of thought and energy is now being devoted to AI Ethics, many basic learning and teaching resources are still needed. Miami Dade College has been an early adopter of AI in pedagogy and one of the first colleges in the country to develop AI degrees and certificates. As part of the Miami Dade College initiatives in these areas, philosophy faculty at the college have developed an AI ethics course, required for many of the AI degrees and certificates. The project, The AI Ethics Toolbox, is being first of all developed to facilitate our immediate institutional needs for AI Ethics. However, we believe it should serve broader national and international interests.
