The Role of A.I in The Art Society by Nestor Perez

Abstract

I chose this topic in response to the upcoming advances in art related A.I technology. From image generation to augmented reality, the assistance of A.I has forced us to reevaluate our notion of art and has begun to transcend our society towards a new era of computation simulations. While the endless possibilities of automation may seem fascinating, it’s critical we take notice of the possible negative impacts it could have on society. Art is often defined as the purposeful expression or application of creative skill or imagination, but what truly separates art from other human creations is its ability to share human experiences. It goes without saying that humans can express themselves with anything and if self-expression is involved, one can consider their work as art.

With recent advances in computational technology, we have created programs that simulate these experiences and create stunning pieces of art, without any human intervention. As a result, artists have been left worried by the negative effect this new technology could have on the professional fields and art world.

In this project I would like to establish the current implications of A.I generated art and the influence it has on artists in different fields of work. I would like as well to capture the urgency of multiple ethical and social issues that arise from immersing ourselves in a world of artificial intelligence.
