Unify America Challenge: Faculty

This Libguide is dedicated to the Unify America Challenge College Bowl, a face-to-face video conversation between two students who attend different schools and may vote differently, live in different geographies, or have different life experiences.

Steps to Participate in the Unify Challenge

  1. Review Overview Flyer
  2. REQUIRED ACTION: Click here to register your classes. There are a limited number of spaces available, submit your registration as soon as possible. This will allow students to find your name and connect their participation to you, and give you access to the interactive dashboard.

  6. (Optional) Invite your iCED representative to visit your class to talk about the Challenge.

IMPORTANT REQUEST FROM UNIFY AMERICA TO MDC FACULTY: After you sign up (Step 2 above), it will take ~24-48 hours for your name to be viewable in the drop down menu of "professors" -- you need to wait until your name appears before you have your students sign up. To see if your name appears, go to the student sign-up page (here) and scroll down to the last question on the bottom "Please select the professor or staff member who referred you" and click on the drop down menu to make sure your name is there. If it has been more than 48 hours since you signed up and your name doesn't appear, email 
  9. Share/show your students the Student Tab here in this LibGuide and have them review everything that is there – including the “Student Instructions” and have them sign up.

  11. CHECK YOUR SPAM/JUNK FOLDERS - all correspondence will be from "" -- generally from "" or "" - remind your students to check their spam/junk mail. 

Key Facts:

  • The College Bowl will take place on September 27th, 28th, and 29th and also on October 4th, 5th, and 6th.
  • There will be two sessions per day: an afternoon session at 5pm EST and an evening session at 8pm EST, giving your students a total of 12 opportunities to participate.
  • It takes about 60 seconds for a student to "sign-up" and the actual time participating in the Bowl is ~1 hour.
  • Each session can accommodate 600 students, so there are 7,200 total spots available during the College Bowl.
  • Your students will be matched with a peer from another school.
  • The landing page where your students can sign up is (item #5 above).
  • Unify America will provide you with administrative links to an interactive dashboard, where you can confirm student attendance and review data regarding things like participant demographics and responses to individual prompts (out of the respect for your students' privacy, the demographic and response data will be an aggregate; only the attendance report will contain individually identifiable information). Your iCED Director will also have access to this dashboard and can pull this info for you.
  • Participating professors must complete the registration form (step #2 above) so your students can select your name when they register and so you will have access to the dashboard.
