Unify America Challenge: Faculty

This Libguide is dedicated to the Unify America Challenge College Bowl, a face-to-face video conversation between two students who attend different schools and may vote differently, live in different geographies, or have different life experiences.

Steps to Participate in the Unify Challenge College Bowl - Spring 2025

  1. REQUIRED: The deadline for faculty to sign up and have your name appear was 2/17 - however, your students can still sign up under "None of the Above" or "Josh Young" and we can get you a list of your students. (You must sign up here so your name appears for your students to choose when they register. It takes just 3 minutes to sign up, but is required.) 
  2. Watch the short videos here on the About tab and review the Overview Flyer. 
  3. Review the "Civic Gym Facilitation Guide" (click here for "Student Instructions" and here to see "Tips and Norm Setting" information)
  4. (Optional but Recommended) Invite your iCED representative to visit your class to talk about the Challenge.
  5. CHECK YOUR SPAM/JUNK FOLDERS - all correspondence will be from "unifyamerica.org" -- generally from "events@unifyamerica.org" or "carol.vederman@unifyamerica.org" - remind your students to check their spam/junk mail too.

  6. Civic Action Scorecard – Participating in the Unify America College Bowl is worth 10 points (see item CW-10 found here in the Changemaker Hub). Students must log into the Changemaker Hub and answer three reflection prompts to earn 10 points towards the Civic Action Award. Instructions on how to add a Scorecard action into the Hub are found here in the Documents  section of the Hub (Open: “Adding Impacts Master_Sept 2023.docx” and see Section E. “How to Add Civic Actions on the Changemaker Hub”)

Key Facts:

The Spring 2025 Unify Challenge College Bowl will take place 14 times over seven days in February & March: 

  • Tuesday, February 25: 2 pm or 5 pm
  • Wednesday, February 26: 5 pm or 8 pm
  • Thursday, February 27: 2 pm or 5 pm
  • Tuesday, March 4: 5 pm or 8 pm
  • Wednesday, March 5: 2 pm or 5 pm 
  • Thursday, March 6: 5 pm or 8 pm
  • Wednesday, March 12: 2 pm or 5 pm 
  1. It takes about 2 minutes for a student to "sign-up" and the actual time participating in the Bowl is ~1 hour.
  2. Your students will be matched with a peer from another school.
  3. The landing page where your students sign up starting in mid-January  is unifyamerica.org/collegebowl/mdc
