Setsuko Nakamuro Thurlow was 13 when the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, killing most of her family. Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes (2023)
Inspired by the life of Sadako Sasaki (1943-1955). At age 2, she survived the Hiroshima bombing, and died at age 12 from radiation-related leukemia. She spent the last year of her life folding over 1000 origami cranes, as a wish for peace. Statues in her honor stand at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Japan, and in the Seattle Peace Park in the USA. (3mins)
