Abstract
Advancements in technology and accessibility in the music industry will not only give aspiring artists the opportunity to produce a professional product, but to also market and profit more directly and easily than before.
The digitization of the music industry in recent years has been a monumental disruptor to the status quo regarding the production and consumption of music and media. Venues hosting live music have begun trending downwards leaving musicians struggling to find work in the traditional music industry. On the other hand, with the widespread adoption of new technology and streaming, many artists are able to broadcast their music directly to a much wider audience than ever before. Furthermore, the technology used to produce music has taken large strides in terms of affordability, utility, and ease of use.
Historically, those in the music industry have been blighted with the legal and financial logistics of producing, marketing, and managing their creative endeavors. The Music Modernization Act seeks to streamline processes by creating and digitally cross-referencing a large database of musical works and their respective creators, thereby making it easier for artists to collect royalties due from the licensing of their intellectual properties.
