Final Course Project: Career Research Presentation
Objective: To allow you to learn more about a career that is of interest to you. Should be a realistic and meaningful career option based on your current academic achievement and plans after earning our college degree.
Product: Choose a method of presenting your information such as PowerPoint, Canva, Sway, etc. Research and answer the following questions completely. Present to the class in a 5 - 6 minute presentation. Make sure your information is recent and you have consulted at least three reliable sources.
- Describe your career choice. What do people in this occupation do on the job? (i.e., their duties, activities, responsibilities)
- Describe the working conditions (inside, outside, office setting?) and weekly hours for this position.
- What interests, likes, or abilities are required for this occupation?
- What education or training is required to enter this occupation?
- Research the program of study for your career choice and answer the following:
- What is the exact name of the program you would be taking?
- How many years is the program?
- Find and name two schools that offer the program. Where are they located?
- What training opportunities or requirements exist for people already in this occupation?
- Salary Information:
- What is the average starting salary
- What is the maximum salary for this career?
- Find a job posting and list what benefits employees are entitled to through their employer? (Health, pension, disability, other?)
- Does this career exist or is it in demand/growing in your desired living location?
- What other occupations are related to this one that would be of interest to you?
- Student reflection:
- Why are you interested in this career? What about it is appealing to you?
- List 3 advantages of this career. List 3 disadvantages of this career.
- Do you think this job would allow you to be the type of person you want to be? Creative, flexible, independent? Explain?
- What did you learn about this career that you did not know before?
- Was this assignment of value to you?
- After learning about the career, what next steps do you need to take?
- Include your updated résumé and cover letter.
