What is RapidILL?
RapidILL is an interlibrary loan service for articles and book chapters that are requested through our PrimoVE Statewide Catalog. It depends on institutions within "pods" to respond quickly to borrowing requests from other institutions within their pods. The quickness is facilitated by lending institutions uploading specific holdings to RapidILL that they are willing to lend. This means that requests outside those holdings are routed to other institutions.
RapidILL has been fully integrated into Alma so that students will not notice any difference. In the past, any time someone requested an article in PrimoVE that we did not have access to, an email would be sent to our generic inbox. Now, the process is fully automated and integrated into our existing UBorrow Workflow just like regular physical items with a few differences. This will help us keep requests organized and will count towards our statistics as opposed to just being something that we serve on the side via email.

What Does This Mean for Patrons?
Patrons will not notice a difference in the way they continue to request articles in our PrimoVE Statewide Catalog. This does not affect the workflow we have for OCLC Article Exchange nor articles requested through our manual ILL form that is listed on our website.
