Graduation Application Deadline - March 18, 2024

Note: Due to printing deadlines, only those students who applied for graduation by the deadline of Monday, March 18, will have their names listed in the Commencement Program.

After the deadline, students may still apply for graduation in the Advisement Office located at their campus, although their names will not appear in the program.

My degree is Not Reflecting

If your degree is not posted to your MDC transcripts, you will need to speak with an Academic Advisor at 305.237.1425 or Anorth@mdc.edu for assistance.
Please note that a diploma cannot be printed if it is not reflecting on your MDC transcripts.

Damaged Diploma/Diploma with Errors

MDC prepares all diplomas in protective packaging, however if you receive your diploma with damages, a complimentary duplicate diploma can be printed, however the original diploma with the damage must be surrendered in its original envelope. If the original diploma cannot be surrendered, there will be a $20 duplicating fee to reprint the diploma.

Late Graduates

If you were graduated late by an Academic or Program Advisor, upon notification your diploma will be mailed within 6-8 weeks by Admissions and Registration to the address on file.

The new name must be updated in the system BEFORE the reprint can be processed. Once the change has been made, follow the instructions to request a duplicate diploma.

Florida's higher education system is designed to allow students to successfully pursue a bachelor's degree by first attending to a two-year institution. This approach of earning a four-year degree is commonly referred to as the 2 + 2 system.

COLLEGE CREDIT CERTIFICATE ADJUDICATION

FIRST CHECK YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A GRADUATION DATE SHOWING THAT YOUR DIPLOMA HAS BEEN AWARDED.

It will be mailed out by the Admissions Office after all program requirements have been met. You should receive your diploma approximately six to eight weeks after all of your coursework has been completed. Your diploma will be mailed to the address that the Admissions Office has on record.

If you think that your diploma has been delayed or if you are an MDC graduate who needs a replacement diploma, please contact the Admissions Office.

NOTE: IF YOU NEED A DUPLICATE GO TO REQUESTING A DUPLICATE

One Blue Tassel for BAS Graduates: BAS Students regardless of their GPA receive a blue tassel in addition to the cap and gown that they receive from the bookstore.

Listed below are the criteria to graduate with honors:

Honors: Cumulative GPA of 3.50 – 3.69 *Receive a blue tassel and a blue cord

Highest Honors: Cumulative GPA of 3.70 – 4.00 *Receive a yellow tassel and a yellow cord in addition to the above.

Honors with Distinction: Cumulative GPA of 3.5 – 3.69 and 15 credits earned in honors courses (via Honors College) which are noted with an “H” on transcript. Idem.

How to request to pick up items by third party
HOW TO REQUEST SOMEONE ELSE TO PICK UP THE CAP AND GOWN FROM THE BOOKSTORE ON BEHALF OF A STUDENT: Email northdean@mdc.edu from student email e.g., john.smith001@mymdc.net
In the email provide the following:
Subject: Bookstore Cap and Gown Pickup Request
Student Full Name
Student MD ID#
A clear picture of student ID (if the student does not have a physical or digital student ID then they may include state ID and a short message stating that they did not receive a student ID at the time of enrollment).
A short message with the full name and relationship of the person picking up e.g.: My cousin Jane Smith is picking up my cap and gown...
The student will receive a response in an email with the approval.
The person picking the cap and gown up on behalf of the student must have this approval's email printed out or on the phone when going to the bookstore.

To pick up the regalia from the department, the student must let the advisors, or the secretaries know in advance with detailed instructions and providing identification.

Graduation regalia includes the cap and gown, as well as other distinguishing hoods, stoles, tassels, and cords that denote traditions of academic achievement.

FCLE MDCPS
The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is a computer-based assessment that measures students’ civic literacy knowledge. In 2021, legislation was passed that requires all students enrolled in a U.S. Government course in high school to take the assessment (see s. 1003.4282(3)(d), F.S.).

Requirements 2018-2019 through 2020-2021
Prior to the award of an associate in arts or baccalaureate degree, first-time-in-college students entering a Florida College System (FCS) or State University System (SUS) institution in the 2018-2019 academic school year and thereafter, must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by the time they graduate pursuant to s. 1007.25(4), Florida Statutes. Students have the option to demonstrate competency through successful completion of a civic literacy course or by achieving a passing score on an assessment.
Preparation for the test
CIVIC LITERACY
Florida is committed to preparing students to become civically engaged and knowledgeable adults who make positive contributions to their communities. Florida students will graduate with sufficient knowledge of America's civics, particularly the principles reflected in the United States Constitution, so as to be capable of discharging their responsibilities as American citizens. On December 10, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis asked Commissioner Richard Corcoran to implement a new civic literacy requirement for high school students.

1. You need to apply to graduate. The college does not confer a degree without an application.
2. But first you have to run your degree audit to confirm you have satisfied all the requirements of your BAS in Criminal Justice program.
3. Then you submit an application to graduate form to the person in charge of graduating students in the SOJ department.
(Please make sure that you have completed the FCLE requirements with the class and the exam if stated as required in your degree audit).

Commencement Day is by far the most important day on the Academic Calendar. The Ceremony has been planned with great precision and creativity in an effort to truly honor and celebrate all 2022-23 graduates.

Students may keep their cap and gown, compliments of the North Campus. A printed Commencement Program will be provided at the Commencement Ceremony.

Guest Tickets

Each graduate is allowed a maximum of six guests. Tickets for your guests are not required.

Honors Regalia

All graduates who earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher will receive special recognition as Honor Graduates. Honor students that have applied for graduation during the Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023 terms will receive the following regalia free of charge: 3.5-3.69 GPA- Honors Tassel; 3.7-4.0 GPA- Honors Tassel & Honors Cord. All Honor students must pick up their honor regalia at the bookstore during cap and gown distribution before Commencement. Students can pick up their items from Wednesday, April 5 – Wednesday, April 19. Students must have a valid MDC ID to pick up these items.

Baccalaureate Degree Graduates

Baccalaureate Degree students may pick up their graduation cords, tassels, and medallions at their respective departments from Monday, April 11th – Friday, April 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students must have a valid MDC ID to pick up these items.
