GENERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BAT INFORMATION
Miami Dade College Assessment Center no longer offers the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT). Law enforcement and correctional officer applicants are required to Pass the FDLE Basic Abilities Test Exam, or provide proof of exemption from Pearson VUE.

CURRENT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
The PAT is administered as part of the entry-level selection process for both law enforcement and corrections. Both law enforcement and correctional officers are required to have a minimum level of physical fitness and agility in order to perform the essential job functions of their position.

Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT) / Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJ-BAT)
The FBAT or CJ-BAT measures the minimum competencies required for employment as a law enforcement or correctional officer such as written comprehension, deductive reasoning, and inductive reasoning. This test is required upon entry into basic recruit training programs.

Advanced Teen Driving Program
This two-part program is designed for newer drivers with a Class E Driver’s License (i.e., not a learner’s permit) who are interested in learning techniques to improve their driving safety. Students will gain advanced skills and techniques to assist with real world driving situation and to avoid being in dangerous situations. This program is designed for teens and young adults (ages 16 – 25).

Equivalence of Training (EOT)
This program is designed to obtain a certification as an officer in Florida without first attending (or re-attending) a full basic recruit academy in Florida.

Link to Police Academy
The Full-Time Basic Law Enforcement Academy runs for approximately 6 months, Monday -Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Class hours do change during the training to achieve certain objectives. Vehicle Operations and Firearms training is scheduled between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Link to Fire Academy
The Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program is a 492-hour course. The Program meets the requirements as set forth by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) for certification as a paid, professional firefighter.

FDLE link
The Equivalency of Training (EOT) process is for Out-of-State Federal Officers and previously certified Florida officers with a four year or more break-in-service pursuant to section 943.131(2), Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) 11B-35.009(4)(5).
The EOT allows an officer to be exempt from having to complete the full basic recruit academy.

Frequently asked questions
Can I complete the Equivalency of Training CJSTC Form 76 and submit it to FDLE?
No. FDLE does not determine if you are eligible for an exemption from training. By law, criminal justice employing agencies or selection centers are responsible for reviewing out-of-state or federal officer's employment and training to initially determine eligibility for exemption. You would need to contact one of these entities to apply for an exemption from training.

What does it cost for the Equivalency of Training process?
The cost to review your information and process the EOT is set by each selection center. You would need to contact them directly to determine what their individual price is. Additionally, each Criminal Justice Training Center determines their cost for the training course, so again, you would need to contact the training center you are interested in attending to determine the cost.
