Artists in Times of War by Elisa Blanco

Abstract

History is rich with knowledge ranging from diary entries, textbooks, clothing, and more. Who implemented the idea that only soldiers, medics, and higher-ranked officers were the ones to see the side of war? What if we saw history from a different perspective? What if we saw history through art? Art has constantly been developing and has been used to teach others how life was back then. When a war would occur, countries would send artists onto the front lines to draw what they saw. In this project, we will visit three known wars and learn the different methods used. Whether it is the artist or the country, the only common factor is that they incorporated art into the war.
