CaribFunk Technique
CaribFunk is “a fusion dance technology that incorporates traditional and social Afro-Caribbean, classical ballet, modern, and fitness elements that identifies that the body is a site of knowledge which illuminates the transformative performances of the pelvis as experienced in the Caribbean cultural performances of the English-speaking Caribbean. CaribFunk is focused on capturing the essence of but not limited to Bahamian Folklore and Junkanoo, Jamaican Dancehall, and Trinidadian Carnival. The technique takes a hip-centered approach, locating power, sensuality, strength, virtuosity, spirituality, playfulness—erotic performance through the pelvis.”
