Gentrifi-QUE-tion: An analysis of gentrification and its effects: A comparison study on gentrification in the city of Hialeah, Florida, and the Miami neighborhood of Wynwood by Yanely Arrieta

Abstract

As a longtime Hialeah resident, I noticed a lot of change, happening fast in my city. New construction happening everywhere, loud musical festivals and even its very own arts district. It intrigued me to wonder what this meant for my city. Therefore, the intent of the analysis wanted to look further into the phenomenon that is gentrification. So, this project researched statistical data and local news articles and found many parallels to Hialeah and neighborhoods that have undergone gentrification. The paper examines if Hialeah is set to be the next Wynwood? Through a short video the project aims to tell a story of history, culture, and progress sprinkled with a little corporate greed, and provide conclusions on whether these investments are for the betterment of the citizens residing in this city.
