Social Media: A New Generation of Art by Jessica Soto

Abstract

The rise of social media is changing the way we experience our daily lives. Through social platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook, we have endless access to countless resources and can connect us with people all over the world. There is also no doubt that social media has a significant impact on art. As an art student, most of my time experiencing art is online. This led me to explore how social media is changing the way we make and display art, specifically with Generation Z. This research study was conducted by surveying 20 art students at Miami-Dade College through a series of 10 questions. My results show that accessibility and convenience play a big role in the way social media impacts them, especially since 95% of these students use it for research when making their art. My paper will explore the positive and negative aspects of these findings.
