Abstract
This review explores the cultural and educational gaps between standard English speakers and Nonstandard English dialects. The paper will explore the origins dialects, language and socioeconomic outcomes, and systemic discriminations in our educational system and society. Using the research available and expert opinions from English language professors, the paper will propose a solution for closing the gaps and reforming educational systems. The research in this review exposes the systemic discriminations still present in our society as a result of colonialism. By reforming the educational system and destigmatizing dialects, The socioeconomic gap between nonstandard English speakers and standard English speakers can begin to close.
