Abstract
This project presents the history of Puerto Rico, spanning from 2000 B.C.E. to the present. The timeline has three sections: The Indigenous tribes of Puerto Rico, Spanish rule, and Commonwealth of the U.S. The main objective of this project is to explore the different factors that lead to the present-day controversy concerning Puerto Rico's status. The source of the island's strong sense of national pride comes from the people's pursuit of freedom that spans centuries. Several historical events and figures that contributed to the island's desire for independence are The Taino Revolution (1511), Grito de Lares (1868), The nationalist party (1922), Profeta Armado (1930), Independence movement (1930), and Ponce Massacre (1937).
